Mission
We aim to educate parents and students about the current school curriculum which teaches our youth that Christopher Columbus discovered America. This harmful narrative largely ignores Native American suffering endured by the lasting impacts of colonization. In learning more about Native American history, it is the hope that the Indigenous peoples will gain some justice and have their voices amplified. After being ignored in the education system for years, the current history taught in schools helps enable ideals of white supremacy and imperialism to continue on and thrive in our country. This is an important and urgent matter because even today, we see Native Americans mistreated and suffering in a country founded on stolen land. We wish to speak to parents and students who can help enact change within school systems. In exploring our site, you can learn more and push to include Native history in our schools to help our youth create a better future for all.

Why Does it Matter?
We believe this topic matters because the people Indigenous to Turtle Island do exist today on land that was stolen from them. Despite living on federally protected land, natives experience racism, abuse, and the threats of having their land taken from them still today. For example, in 2016 protests erupted against the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline which was designed to run through protected native land under one of the main sources of water.
This was an issue for a number of issues, one of which being that if the pipe were to burst, oil would leak into their land and source of freshwater, devastating their health and limited resources. Even with years of protesting, the DAPL was still installed, showing that the American government still addresses native land and rights with little concern and focuses more on capitalistic and imperialistic efforts. We believe the way we are taught about native history and what this country was built on helps enable white supremacy attitudes and excuses behaviors exhibited such as these. The issue must be addressed at the source, and our youth needs to be properly educated on history in order to keep the same mistakes from happening. The Indigienous people who were here first deserve that basic decency and respect at the very least. We cannot change our past, but we can change our future.
